Man dies after going overboard tug off Nome coast
Tugboat Captain David Whitemarsh died after he fell overboard from the Polar Ranger tugboat towing a barge off the Nome coast. The captain was apparently transferring from the tug boat to the barge when he slipped and went into the water.
His crew and the crew of another boat took over 10 minutes to bring the 56-year old Captain onto the deck.
He was unresponsive and life-saving efforts were unsuccessful after Whitemarsh was pulled out of the water.
